Heavy gunfire has broken out in central Mogadishu after Somali opposition leaders were attacked by government forces ahead of planned protests against the president's term extension.

Gunfire, including rocket-propelled grenades, erupts in Mogadishu's Howl Wadaag district as former PM Hassan Ali Khaire says government forces attacked his consultative meeting ahead of planned protests against President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's term extension beyond May 15.
