The Joseph Rowntree Foundation's UK Poverty 2026 report warns that 14.2 million people (21%) in Britain live in poverty, including 4.2 million children projected to remain in poverty by 2029 without further government action, despite Labour's move to lift the two-child benefit limit from April 2026 which will immediately lift 400,000 children out of poverty.
