The Department of Homeland Security says New York has refused thousands of ICE detainers for criminal illegal aliens since Trump took office, with DHS officials criticizing sanctuary policies.

DHS officials released data showing New York refused 16,070 ICE detainers between January 20, 2025, and October 8, 2026, involving illegal aliens with more than 52,000 criminal charges and convictions, as DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin condemned Governor Hochul and Mayor Mamdani for non-cooperation.
